South of Hua Hin the coast empties out. Khao Tao is a fishing village tucked between a hill and the sea, and its little crescent of soft sand at Sai Noi is where many people first fall for the quieter side of the area. Keep going and you reach Pranburi, Dolphin Bay and the edge of Sam Roi Yot national park, where the beaches get longer and the building lower.
There are pockets of the same feeling north of Cha-Am too — the open stretches at Puktien and toward Hat Chao Samran that see far more Thai weekenders than tourists. What ties it all together is space: plots are bigger here, so what you buy tends to be a detached house with a garden and a pool rather than an apartment with a view.
